Collated Field Notes, 1348 BD

Compiled from the journal of Annora Toulali, collated from the archive of the Mwamban Archeological Society. Transcribed from shorthand.

Entry 732 – 9 / 17 / 1348

Skyfort, Cloudfall Mountains. No new findings. Reconstruction of pottery shards found in north corridor suggests similar firing techniques to Riconan pottery. Supports link to first settlers. Translation of inscribed text underway. Slow progress. Arathki continue to seem docile, but jumpy.

Igli, Bigbli, and Borgi seem different. Drinking more. Borgi found a shard of pottery (originating from at least 5100 BD based on initial assessment) laced with a red metal. Not copper, hue looks like blood. Shard depicts screaming face. Ominous.

Entry 733 – 9 / 18 / 1348

Skyfort, Cloudfall Mountains. Set up camp deeper within northern portion. Hard to estimate the size of this place.

New findings:

Pottery – 5 large celadon-glazed pitchers (radius 2-3in.), 3 medium (1-2in.), 2 small (<1in). Exact measurements and sketches attached. Initial dating suggests early first settler nations, approx. 7000BD. Early water storage system.

Mosaic – Surprisingly well preserved, located in current digsite. Will excavate fully over next few days. Viewable portions suggest proto-Aledrian myth of Kabathi. Fire-breathing flying reptile (dragon?), mountain (volcano?), desert. Myth of Ag’Drathera? Earlier than pitchers, but using similar clay. Same origin & firing techniques. Remarkably well preserved; Arathki seem interested in protecting it. Do they know something?

Other notes; the other three are increasingly unreliable. More and more intoxicated. Something amiss. Work cannot stop, so left them at southern dig.

Entry 734 – 9 / 24 / 1348

Awoke in Maipi. Missed a few days. Last memories were on the 19th – met a mercenary group, traveling into the ruins. They offered to bring me, I agreed on the basis of scouting the area. Found chamber deeper within, mosaics of the final pact. Concrete evidence of First Settler activity in region. Sylex. Ambushed by defense mechanism in wall. Knocked out. Should have died, not sure how I survived.

Was carried out of Skyfort by a diplomat (spy?) from Kofao, Kirabo Nafiste. Lost track of mercenary party, still badly wounded. Recovering slowly.

Entry 735 – 9 / 24 / 1348

Ruminating. Myth of Ag’Drathera being found here suggests the myth predates the Kabathi. How did settlers in this area know of Kaburi? Did they travel there first? Most other architectural features here suggest parallel development with Ricona & Wolvaren. Could the Kabathi predate those settlers? Must investigate.

Kirabo mentioned that the mercenaries were spotted travelling north. Maybe they think the same. Will have to find them again.
